Let Fridays Be Work Free Demands Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC)

The president of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has listed its six-point demand to the restructuring committee. The demand released on Monday,12 October 2017 as reported by Tori News reads;
*********************
“One: Nigerians enjoy a total of eight (8) public holidays in a year. These are
Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Id
al-Kabir, Id al-Fitr and Maulud an-Nabiyy. Five (5) of the eight holidays belong
to Christians (Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 1st January, i.e, New Year Day,
Good Friday and Easter Monday). Only three (3) holidays belong to Muslims,
viz, Id al-Kabir, Id al-Fitr and Maulud an-Nabiyy.
”Restructuring should give Muslims 1st Muharram. This will bring the total
number of Muslim holidays to four while Christian holidays remain five.
”Two: Christian marriages contracted inside churches or registries are held
sacrosanct everywhere in Nigeria whereas Muslim marriages (nikah) are not
recognized for any official purpose. Muslim couples find themselves in a cul
de sac each time they presented their Islamic marriage certificates for official
purposes. It is paradoxical that in a democracy, one marriage conducted by a
religious group is acceptable while the other is not. What kind of constitution
is Nigeria using?
”Islamic marriages should be recognized in all official circles where Christian
marriages are recognized. The Nigerian Marriage Act (1990) should therefore
be revisited.
”Three: Nigeria has a two-day weekend, viz, Saturday and Sunday. Saturday
was a half day during the colonial era and Sunday was the only full day at the
weekend. However, Saturday was made a full day to favour the Seventh Day
Adventists, a Christian denomination during the regime of General Yakubu
Gowon, a Christian military ruler. It is very clear, therefore, that the two
weekend days recognized in Nigeria belong to Christians while Muslims have
none since Friday, the Muslim day of worship, remains a working day.
”It is pertinent to note that Friday was a work-free day until the British
brought Christianity and stopped Muslims from enjoying their Allah-given
fundamental human right. The relief we are seeking through restructuring is
that Friday should be declared free to assume parity with the Christians’
Sunday. While we are not seeking anarchy, we are confident that the Federal
Government (FG) has all the paraphernalia of administration to work out the
modalities.
”Four: Immigration officials engage in regular stereotyping of Muslims who
apply for international passports. They intimidate Muslims particularly at the
point of taking pictures. Muslim males are ordered to remove their caps;
Imams are coerced into removing their turbans; bearded Muslims are
compelled to shave or trim their beards; hijab-wearing Muslim women are
made to remove their hijabs or ordered to draw their hijab backwards to reveal
their ears. The same scenario plays itself out in driving licence, national
identity card offices and during registration for elections.
”In the process, thousands of Muslims have been denied international
passports, driving licences and national identity cards while millions have
been disenfranchised during elections. The authorities must find a way of
stopping the persecution and profiling of Muslims.
”Five: Uniformed groups in Nigeria, including the army, police, uniformed
voluntary groups, nurses, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), students
of primary and secondary schools, etc, use uniforms designed by the
Christian colonialists. These uniforms should have been reviewed after
independence because they only suit the Christians. Some of them constitute
breaches to Islamic dress code and offend the sensibility of Muslims who are
compelled to wear the uniforms regardless of their inner feeling of resentment.
”In view of the fact that Western countries like Britain, Canada and the United
States have designed uniforms with hijab for their female Muslim police,
soldiers, students, etc, Nigeria’s restructuring authorities should borrow a leaf
from those countries.
”Six: There is no single Shari’ah court in South Western Nigeria where
Muslims constitute the majority. This is contrary to what obtained in
Yorubaland before the advent of the British. There were Shariah courts in Ede,
Iwo, Ikirun, Ibadan, etc. Yoruba Muslims are now compelled to take their civil
matters like inheritance, marriage, etc to Christo-Western courts. This is
preposterous and unacceptable.
”We demand the establishment of Shariah courts in all South Western states
including Edo State where there is a significant percentage of Muslims.
”We call the attention of FG and the restructuring committee of the APC to
the above six reliefs. Muslims are in bondage in this country and we believe
that restructuring should emancipate people in captivity. APC promised
change. This change can only be meaningful to us if it breaks the shackles
around our necks. We have begged enough for the restoration of our Allah-
given and fundamental human rights. We are tired of begging. Restructuring is
about reapportioning the dividends of democracy such that it goes round and
it is not restricted to one section.
”Colonial administration was grossly unfair to Muslims. Nigeria was
Christianised by Britain and Muslims bore the brunt. We suffered forceful
conversion, denial of rightful employment and even worse forms of
persecution. But what is most disappointing is the policy of exclusion
adopted by post-independence governments.
”On a final note, we demand full integration and full recognition as bona fide
citizens of Nigeria, not second or third class citizens. We are the aggrieved
party. The British most brutally and most unjustly took all we had from us,
giving us nothing in return and offering no relief. It has continued to give us a
feeling of rejection, marginalization, denial of the dividends of democracy and
lack of a sense of belonging. The time for redress is now and our six-point
relief is here for all to digest.”

 4     g to cause the clash between its personnels and citizens of the South-east for their personal gains.

 Director, Army Public

Relations, Sani Usman,

made the accusation in an

interview with the News

Agency of Nigeria on

Friday.

“It is so sad and

unfortunate that a

particular group of

people, for political

expediency and mischief,

are trying to set the

military and Nigerian

society against each other.

“It is sad, it is

unfortunate,” Mr. Usman,

a brigadier general, said

while reacting to the face-

off between the army and

members of some groups

in the zone, particularly

in Abia.

The army spokesperson,

however, maintained that

in spite of the face-off, the

army would go ahead to

conduct its exercise,

“Egwu Eke’’ – Python

Dance II, due to

commence on Friday.

“It will commence on 15,

September 2017. The

troops have been

conducting themselves

professionally within the

ambit of rules of

engagement and code of

conduct and where there

are noted infractions,

appropriate measures

will be taken.”

Mr. Usman described the

face-off between the

army and members of the

Indigenous People of

Biafra, IPOB, in Abia as

an isolated issue which he

said was being blown out

of proportion by some

people.

“These isolated

incidences, instigated by

miscreants and mischief

makers, therefore, should

not be taken as something

that should jeopardise the

military exercise going on

in that place.

“It is really sad and unfortunate that

people will not find time to ask

question about the essence and

activities involved in respect of

exercise Egwu Eke II before jumping

into conclusion.

“The exercise is taking part in the

entire South East and Cross River,

why should we have problem in one

state – Abia.

“There is no reported problem in

Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu and

Cross River states.”

The army spokesman called for

understanding, saying that there “is

need for all of us to be more

responsible, exercise understanding

about the issues at hand, support

and encourage the military to

perform its legitimate duty.

“The exercise we are having has

been scheduled since last year –

2016, it is not targeted at any

segment of the Nigerian society.

“As a matter of fact, it was because

of the encouraging feedback that we

have about the conduct of exercise

Python Dance I in 2016 that brought

the idea of having another exercise.

“And being a responsible

organisation, people said Python

Dance seems to be something

awkward, so, why don’t you call it in

the native language of those people

so that they can understand it just

like you have exercise Harbin

Kunama.

“We have had exercises in other

parts of the country.

“As soon as we are done with

exercise Egwu Eke II, we are

embarking on exercise Crocodile

Smile II which is also a scheduled

training exercise in the circle of the

Nigerian army training year, 2017.

“And this time around, beyond the

South-south Zone, it will be extended

to the South West zone, involving 2

Division, 6 Division and 81 Division,”

Mr. Usman said.

He argued that Egwu Eke was not an

operation but a training exercise

intended to sharpen the skills

involved.

This, he said was to enable them to

deal with crimes such as kidnapping,

pipeline vandalism and other violent

crimes associated with the zone,

especially in “ember months.’’

“I want you to understand that the

military do not come out on its own,

it will only do so in case there is a

need, a constitutional responsibility

or need for them to come out in aid

of civil authority.”

On the reported attack by members

of IPOB on other ethnic groups in

Abia and part of Rivers, he said

security agencies had risen to the

challenge.

“Well, there were reported attempts

by hoodlums or miscreants to take

undue advantage of what has been

happening to harass and molest

some other persons residing in the

south east.

“For instance, we have had incidents

at Oyibo in Rivers and of course,

Aba. Security agencies have risen to

the challenge.

“There are some mischievous

elements that are peddling

information to incite people. People

should be wary about information

advised.

IPOB- How Politicians Incited Uprising In The South-East.

“It is so sad and unfortunate that a particular group of people, for political expediency and mischief, are trying to set the military and Nigerian society against each other. it is sad,it is unfortunate” The statements were in reaction

However, Brigadier General Usman Sani, reiterated the Nigeria Army’s resolution to go with exercise, Operation Python Dance due for kick-keep-off ,today, regardless.

“It will commence on 15, September 2017. The troops have been conducting themselves professionally within the ambit of rules of engagement and code of conduct and where there are noted infractions, appropriate measures will be taken.”

The Spokesman tagged the crisis between the army and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in Abia as an isolated issue which according to him was taken too far by some elements.

“These isolated incidences, instigated by miscreants and mischief makers, therefore, should not be taken as something that would jeopardise the military exercise going on in that place. “It is really sad and unfortunate that people will not find time to ask question about the essence and activities involved in respect of exercise Egwu Eke II before jumping into conclusion.

He called for understanding, saying that there “is need for all of us to be more responsible, exercise understanding about the issues at hand, support and encourage the military to perform its legitimate duty.

“And this time around, beyond the South-south Zone, it will be extended to the South West zone, involving 2 Division, 6 Division and 81 Division,” Mr. Usman said.

He described as a training exercise  and not an operation as insinuated in some quarters. by the public.

The aim of the exercise,he said, was to sharpen and prepare the troops to  handle to crimes such as kidnapping, pipeline vandalism and other violent crimes associated with the zone effectively, especially in “ember months.’’

“I want you to understand that the military do not come out on its own, it will only do so in case there is a need, a constitutional responsibility or need for them to come out in aid of civil authority.”

He said that adequate measures have been put in place by security agencies to protect northerners residing in the troubled zone-Aba and Oyibo

“There are some mischievous elements that are peddling information to incite people. People should be wary about information on the social media,” Mr. Usman  advised.

IMO STATE-Teenage Girl In Possession Of Human Head Nabbed.

Security operatives in Imo state has apprehended a teenage girl known as Chidinma Iheoma, in possesion of fresh human head. The girl hails from Mgbirichi, in Ohaji local government area of the state. She confessed that she and her friends killed two men whom they found out were spying on them. According to her the remains of the body had been buried by her group.

RESTIVENESS: Ndi-Igbo Market In Kaduna Ablaze

Reports from Northern-Nigeria have it that a popular Igbo dominated market(Ndi-Igbo Market) in Kaduna has been set ablaze by some northern youths in the early hours of today,Wednesday 13th of September, 2017 and goods worth millions of naria damaged in the inferno. Insinuations from different quarters links the incident to the ongoing clash in the eastern part of the country between the soliders of the Nigeria Army and members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra following their (IPOB) agitation for secession.                Recall that a group of Northern youths had in what they tagged “Kaduna Declaration” asked Igbos residing in all the northern states to leave the region within three months which will elapse by Ist October, 2017.

Biafra National Guard Warns Nigeria Army

A pro-Biafra group, Biafra National Guard, has warned the Nigerian army to stop its ongoing Operation Python Dance II in the southeast or its members will begin to defend themselves. In to a statement made available to Daily Post, the group said the military operation in the southeast is a plot to end the lives of secession agitators in the region. The group said it would resist the unlawful killings of southeast indigenes by the army.                                                                                      “We fear not; we dine, sleep and live hostility and will defend our lives. BNG continues to make it loud and clear that Biafra needs activation of self defense as enshrined in UN 2007 charter to restore Biafra and that is what BNG represents. “Our commander; General Innocent Orji does not subscribe to defenseless agitation, but to continue on the path of non-violence, Nigeria must withdraw lethal force which might be impossible because we are considered slaves that deserve death. Our commander knows the terrain of self defense as enshrined in 2007 UN Charter on the rights of indigenous people. “As we continue to make it clear; self defense is due because our people have continued to face death, promised to be crushed by Buhari and the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra whom BNG is saddled with responsibility of defending has come under severe threat as well.” The group said it is not a violent group but it would not hesitate to confront the army and put a stop to the military operation in the state. “The people of Biafra and her leadership fully support the decision of Biafra National Guard because we are not violent agitators but out to stop the unlawful killing of our people. Biafra National Guard is not a violent group rather Nigerian military is violent to our people; killing and maiming us and BNG is an outfit designed to curb the wanton killing of Biafrans. We have never been violent in any shape or form; but would resist unlawful killing of our people. “Unlike Nigerian military that find strength against unarmed and peaceful civilians; we the Biafra National Guard find strength against unlawful hostile, undisciplined, happy-trigger soldiers that violate human rights, crush peaceful and law-abiding citizens. Operation Python Dance II in Southeast is a show of cowardice; BNG is not Southeast movement but Biafra military wing. “The blood of the people of Biafra makes the python dance and merry; our molestation makes the python happy and laugh. Road blocks in Biafra make the python dance and party round, throw money like politicians. Molesting our women makes the python dance but very soon Biafra National Guard shall make the python shade tears by denying the python the evil deeds that makes it dance. “The people of Biafra and her leadership must urgently support and pray for her military wing because BNG is the pride of the people and the backbone of the leadership of the people of Biafra under Nnamdi Kanu whom the people have chosen,” the statement read.                                                         Earlier, the governor of the state Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, had declared a three-day curfew in Aba,the commercial hub of the state following the clash between the army and the citizens of the state. The Operation Python Dance II which has been launched by the   Nigeria Army has raised serious fear and tension in the state.            In a statement issued by the governor on Tuesday, September 12, Dr. Okezie established that the state recognises the supremacy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but urged the army to conduct its operation in compliance with international standard.                         The curfew takes effect from Tuesday 12 September from 6am to 6pm and ends on Friday, the  15th of September.
